SETTING UP A BUSINESS

 

NEW TAXI

  • Accepted Year of Vehicles for 2013 is 2001+


DOCUMENTS REQUIRED WHEN REGISTERING THE NEW TAXI:

  • Original Export Certificate or Deregistration Certificate
  • Customs Release Form
  • Business License


RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR TAXIS:

  • Taxi must be registered within a Taxi Stand
  • Taxi should have the bar and taxi “sign” (YELLOW OR WHITE SIGNS ACCEPTED)
  • Vehicle Color: PURE WHITE
  • Vehicle Engine: 1.5 upwards
  • Passengers: 4 (for small taxi)
  • 15 (for vans)
  • Should have name of Taxi Stand:
  • On doors: Length - 42cm
  • Width - 30cm
  • Top of Windscreen: 10cm wide.

NOT ALLOWED:

  • Tints
  • Spotlights
  • Fog Lights
  • Amps
  • Gas Emission
  • Loud Horns
  • Smoking inside the Taxi
  • Black Stripes with the exception of vehicles with black bumper (eg: HIACE Vans)


Should be in Good Condition:

  • Chairs
  • Seat Belts
  • Window Handles
  • Handles and locks of Doors
  • Lights and Windshields
  • Mirrors
  • Taxi Driver should wear clean clothes


Renewing of Taxi License

  • Taxi must be registered within a Taxi Stand
  • Make sure the taxi is in good condition when brought in to renew license
  • License is renewed twice a year, March & September
  • If you do not pay the renewal fee on time a late fee of $50 will be added on top of the normal license cost
  • Taxi is required to be taken to LTA compound (Salelologa/Vaitele) for inspection.
  • Taxi Driver should have Commercial License on him/her when taking vehicle for renewal of license
  • License will be renewed if the taxi is satisfactory and meet Safety Requirements for Public Service Vehicles to be on the road


Rules and Regulations for Issued Licenses:

  • Taxis registered in Upolu are prohibited to work in Savaii
  • Taxis registered in Savaii are prohibited to work in Upolu
  • Use “NOT IN SERVICE” sign when vehicle is not taking passengers. When used for weddings leave the bar and taxi sign on but use the “NOT IN SERVICE” sign
  • If the taxi is found taking passengers but the License is expired you will be fined $100. This fine has to be paid at LTA within 21 days. After 21 days it will be taken to court.
  • Taxis registered in Upolu has different color sticker to that of Taxis registered in Savaii.

ONLY Right Hand Drive Readymade Buses are Accepted

Rules and Regulations for Issued Licenses:· VERY IMPORTANT FOR BUSES TO TRAVEL TO THEIR ASSIGNED ROUTES/VILLAGES· With regards to rules and criteria’s for issuing permits for Buses, if you decide to sell your bus you will no longer hold a PSV license and you will be required to apply for another license if you decide to buy another bus and start up a Bus business· The buyer of any bus with existing License should inform the Land Transport Authority of the handover if I approves the transfer, if not it will advertise the current license for interested parties.· With any transfer of ownership of buses the owner should prepare all relevant documents for the transfer.· The person who is buying the bus will be responsible for paying the transfer of the vehicle.· It is advised that OWNERS of buses should be aware of Traffic Offence Notices issued to Bus Drivers due to committing Traffic Offences, because they are the ones who will be responsible in paying the fines. All fines has to be paid within 21 days or will be taken to court.· Owners of buses should abide with the rules and criteria’s set out for Licenses For Buses and should also inform their Bus Drivers because Licenses can be revoked if they do not adhere with these rules and regulations.
